Screwing the auld wood

POSTED IN Day to day 31.05.2008

Völundur and the driftwoodVölundur makes magic out of the old driftwood pieces we gathered at the beach; making a stand for both prints and postcards. The weather has been awesome here up North the last few days, so we decided to make the stand on the pavement outside the Marina Centre, downtown Akureyri, in the blazing sunshine and warm air.

Somehow we ended up getting a few logs into a hostage situation with some 7 year old kids there, since they found the logs too precious as seats in the sunshine and promptly refused to give us access to our cache of building material.

We got the stand into the Marina, all ready there to display prints in matting and a good few more postcards(we had already made separate “stands” for around 15 postcards the day before).

An unexpected turn of design that totally worked! We did say we were going to show you photos of the finished results – we will, once the Marina has everything ready and set up.

The days have been spent doing prints, polishing frame-glass, removing the cat from the workstation, dust proofing frames, finding out the printer died and getting a new one, removing the cat, making signature labels for the back of prints, polishing more frame-glass, cursing the dust, removing the cat, polishing more and printing even more…

All while keeping one eye on the earthquakes down south, where Völundur´s family live. Everyone there is ok, give or take broken pottery and furniture.

We are heading off to Reykjavik early in the morning for a quick interview(news of that later hopefully!) and then going up to Hellnar in Snæfellsnes to set up an exhibition of Helga Kvam’s and Lára Stefánsdóttir’s works from a joint trip to the Snæfellsnes peninsula in August 2007.

The exhibition will be held in the café at the old docks in Hellnar for the month of June 2008.
